Critical Analysis of Advertising Message

Who is the intended audience of the message?
-The intended audience are mature women ages 18 to 40. These women are most likely housewives.

What elements of the message make it an effective (or ineffective) form of persuasion?
-What makes it an effective form of persuasion is that the story of Cinderella coordinates well with cleaning supplies. Since this cleaner is good enough for Cinderella, who's job it was to clean tough messes, it is a persuasive message.

How does the message utilize and/or influence popular culture?
-This message utilizes popular culture because it takes the story of Cinderella, which also came out in the 1950's, and makes it a fun commercial for a cleaner. The message uses song, animation, and factual benefits.

Describe the theme of advertising that you choose:
  • What they are selling- Bab O Cleaner
  • The time period the ad would fit into- 1950's
  • The advertising method they used- The method used was that of a testamonial. Cinderella uses Bab O and it works wonders for her. The ad was also uplifting and cheerful using song and fun animation, making it a pleasure to watch.
  • Why the item or product would be important to someone from that time period- During this time home ownership was prideful. Having cleaners that help take care of the house was a staple to have. 

How advertising is a reflection of and a form of culture during the time period
Identify examples and portrayals of various ethnic, racial, and other stereotypes
-Stereotypes used are the forgotten housewife. Many women during this time were housewives and the story of Cinderella is hopeful since Cinderella breaks out of the home and finds herself at a glamorous ball.
